Hiking through the dense jungle to explore the ancient hidden temples is the best way to experience the mystical beauty of Siem Reap’s heritage sites. On this 3-day trekking tour, you will escape from crowds of Angkor Wat and follow back trails to Beng Mealea, Koh Ker, and Preah Vihear tenples. At the end, stop by Ta Mok’s house and Pol Pot tomb in Anlong Veng for a short visit.
Our guide and driver pick you up from your hotel in Siem Reap and transfer to Beng Melea temple for your first stop to visit this great temple. Beng Melea was built during the reign of King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century. Its primary material is sandstone and it is surrounded by moats. The basic layout is three enclosing galleries around a central sanctuary. There is extensive carving of scenes from Hindu mythology, including the Churning of the Sea of Milk and Vishnu being borne by the bird god Garuda. Causeways have long balustrades formed by bodies of the seven-headed Naga serpent. Smaller in size than Angkor Wat, the king’s main monument, Beng Mealea nonetheless ranks among the Khmer empire’s larger temples.
Continue driving another 80km to Koh Ker temples where you will do jungle hiking to visit all the main temples of Koh Ker. Dinner will be provided on the site and overnight in tent near the temples.
After breakfast, you are transferred to Preah Vihea temple with 2 hours driving on 160km road. On arrival at the foot of Preah Vihear Mountain we will start our hard trekking up to the top of the hill, it will take one 1 hour. Preah Vihear is a Khmer temple situated atop a 525-metre cliff in the Dangrek Mountains in Cambodia close to the Thailand border, but most notably in Cambodian territory. As a key edifice of the empire’s spiritual life, it was supported and modified by successive kings and so bears elements of several architectural styles. Affording a view for many kilometers across a plain, it has the most spectacular setting of all the temples built during the six-century-long Khmer Empire. Long been the subject of intense ownership disputes between the two neighbouring countries, Cambodia was officially awarded control of Preah Vihear in 1962 by the International Court of Justice and it is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
After lunch we walk back from the top down to the foot of mountain and transfer to overnight basic guesthouse in Anlong Veng.
Overnight at the guesthouse.
After breakfast, today you will take a 30-minute visit to Ta Mok’s house in the town of Anlong Veng. This was the last military base of Pol Pot and Ta Mok was the general commander of Pol Pot, his house was the bigger one in the area and it likely the office more than a house.
And continue driving north to the top of Phnom Dangrek to visit the Pol Pot tomb, he died in 1999 in Anlong Veng town but he had no close relationship and no power during his last 2 days after he lost the power. So when we see his tomb is look like the tomb from ordinary people but the tomb of Ta Mok is much bigger. Return to have lunch in local restaurant in Anlong Veng and proceed to Siem Reap
