Ondoung Meas is a unique place for the many indigenous tribes of Ratanakiri province. That is why it attracts many national and international tourists seeking differences of culture. Ondoung Meas district is about 70kms from the center of the Banlung township.
Departure time from Banlung is at 8:30am, we take you to visit a village of the Tompoun tirbe. Along the way, you’ll be able to see the beautiful landscape of rural northeastern Cambodia. You’ll see many indiginous people walking barefoot with their traditional baskets, carrying diferent kinds of vegetables, to and from the markets. At around 9am, you’ll reach your first destination and get to see the Tampuon tribal village. This is a handicraft village. When there is free time, the Tampoun people will make their traditional clothes and scarves by hand. You spend an hour visiting this village and learn about the culture, traditions and lifestyle of these locals.
They are very friendly and helpful people and are happy to answer questions from you. The Tampuon tribe have a very interesting culture. You may get the chance to see either a funeral or wedding celebration.
10-11am – You then continue on to see a gem mining area. Ratanakiri means “Mountain of Treasure” and gem mining is an important industry for the locals. Beautiful sapphires, amethysts and blue zircon are produced here and it is possible to visit the mines, see the mining process and even try your own hand at it.
You will then move on to Ondong Meas where there is a break for lunch at around 12pm. At 1pm, you’ll walk for about 15 minutes to an indigenous Jarai cemetery. You’ll spend around 1 hour there to observe and listen to explanations on tradition, culture and beliefs about the tombs from the guide. At 3pm, you will see two villages of the Jarai tribe and then you travel back to Banlung. At 4pm, you will go to the vocanic lake (Yeak Loum lake) for a nice swim and relax.
You return to Banlung at the late afternoon.
